FOUR VIRTUES, FIVE BLESSINGS

Those who want to know the truth of the universe should practice the four cardinal virtues.

The first is reverence for all life; this manifests as unconditional love and respect for oneself and all other beings.

The second is natural sincerity; this manifests as honesty, simplicity, and faithfulness.

The third is gentleness; this manifests as kindness, consideration for others, and sensitivity to spiritual truth.

The fourth is supportiveness; this manifests as service to others without expectation of reward.

The four virtues are not an external dogma but a part of your original nature.

When practiced, they give birth to wisdom and evoke the five blessings:

Health, wealth, happiness, longevity, and peace.

PURE INSPIRATION

This short video is a beautiful example of excelling despite circumstances. Children like these super talented teens are the reason why I am such a supporter of organizations like schoolonwheels.org that provide support for homeless children.

No excuses…just do it! :)

Congratulations Chelesa Fearce! :)

ONE CANNOT EAT MONEY

When the last tree has been cut down, the last fish caught, the last river poisoned, only then will we realize that one cannot eat money.” -Native American Proverb

ROUND LIKE A CIRCLE IN A SPIRAL

As it often happens, my previous post reminded me of something..haha This time, it was the lyrics of “The Windmills of Your Mind” from the movie The Thomas Crown Affair  (the original with Steve McQueen!) . I found this cool version without words by Dorothy Ashby on harp, but here are the lyrics:

Round, like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel.
Never ending or beginning,
On an ever spinning wheel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnaval balloon
Like a carousel that’s turning
Running rings around the moon

Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on it’s face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Like a tunnel that you follow
To a tunnel of it’s own
Down a hollow to a cavern
Where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving
In a half forgotten dream
Or the ripples from a pebble
Someone tosses in a stream.

Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on it’s face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Keys that jingle in your pocket
Words that jangle your head
Why did summer go so quickly
Was it something that I said
Lovers walking along the shore,
Leave their footprints in the sand
Was the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand

Pictures hanging in a hallway
And a fragment of this song
Half remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong
When you knew that it was over
Were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the color of her hair

Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning,
On an ever spinning wheel
As the images unwind
Like the circle that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Pictures hanging in a hallway
And the fragment of this song
Half remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong
When you knew that it was over
Were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the color of her hair

Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning,
On an ever spinning wheel
As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

CIRCLES

Since starting my morning with a bike ride, I’ve been thinking of circles.

I believe that life is simply made up of lines and circles. Of the two, circles represent motion and change. Like the karmic wheel, things always come back.

In that fashion, today I had a joyous reunion with a college sister-friend…and then by some miraculous twist of fate, the computer helpdesk person I contacted at HP happened to remember meeting me when I worked for a previous company! Unreal.

Consider well the energy that you put out today…it will eventually find its way back to you.

(Fortunately, I received awesome customer service! ;)

EVERYTHING CONNECTED

According to an old adage, if a butterfly flaps its wings in Japan, there is a hurricane in New York.

In other words, all events are inextricably interconnected — an idea long upheld by Eastern mystics and supported by discoveries in quantum physics.

Take a decision to remind yourself of the importance of the energy that you send out into the world; everything you do has repercussions on everything else. Then act accordingly.
